This vessel is designed as a multipurpose ship capable of carrying both containers and grain. It features a single propeller powered by a diesel engine, open-type hatchways, double hulls, a bulbous bow, and a square stern. The ship boasts a sloping bow, a single-layer continuous dry-dock deck, as well as elevated foredeck and aftdeck structures, making it suitable for unlimited navigation areas. On the port side of the deck, three electric-hydraulic Konecranes cranes are installed. Two of these cranes have a maximum safe working load of 250 metric tons each, while the third crane can handle up to 80 metric tons. Notably, the two 250-ton cranes can operate in tandem when needed. Both cargo hatches are equipped with hydraulic folding hatch covers and second-deck hatch covers. The second-deck hatch cover is of the floating-box type and can be operated using the Konecrane cranes. Additionally, the second-deck hatch cover within Cargo Hold No. 2 can also serve as a movable grain bulkhead.

The ship is designed as a passenger/vehicle ro-ro carrier for short international voyages, carrying passengers, sedans, laden vehicles and container trailers, with a steel hull, twin main engines, twin adjustable propellers, twin rudders, forward tilting bowpost, bulbous bow and streamlined flap rudders, with engine room located on the transom, and equipped with bow thruster, rocking fins and anti-transverse tilting device.

The vessel shall be designed and constructed as a modern passenger-cargo vessel, able to carry 399 passengers and crew,containers, general cargo, packaging cargo, pallets, cargo diesel and IMO class 3 dangerous cargo in container in cargo hold No.1.

"East China Pearl 8 is the first new type of large-scale luxury passenger ship of "China-Korea route" researched and designed by China itself. With an overall length of 196 meters, a width of 28.6 meters, a depth of 14.8 meters, a gross tonnage of 34,000 tons, a passenger quota of 1,500, and a lane length of 2,500 meters, it is equipped with supermarkets, duty-free stores, bars, chess and cards rooms, KTV rooms, libraries, children's playgrounds, gymnasiums, and other recreational and leisure venues.
